Cam Newton: One reason to watch the 2012 Pro Bowl

He’s the tipping point. Cam Newton’s smile always catches eyes but at the 2012 Pro Bowl, the QB for the Carolina Panthers has been catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. When you see it in the game on Sunday, give Aron Angel credit. Newton closed the practice by lining up wide and catching a nicely thrown ball, about 50 yards down the sideline.

“Did you see that?” Packers WR Greg Jennings said afterward. “He looks really fluid and natural. It’s kind of scary.”

This is exactly what the Pro Bowl needed – new energy and excitement. Remember in 2008 when Sean Taylor popped the ish out of Brian Moorman of my beloved Buffalo Bills.

Latinos in the NFL Not Named Cruz, Gonzalez or Sanchez

When you think about the number of Latinos playing in the NFL, two names immediately comes to mind, Mark Sanchez, Tony Gonzalez and now Victor Cruz. Cruz’s emergence as a top slot receiver got me to thinking..how many other NFL ballers could we salsa with?

The NFL is very popular in the United States but not nearly as popular worldwide. There is a low percentage of Latinos that play in the league – currently less than 25. I’ll give the commissioner and other execs at the National Football League some credit for trying to expand the brand. I can remember Mexico hosting a few games some years back, but that sputtered and now its across the pond in London.

The early success of Jets QB Mark Sanchez and future HOFer Tony Gonzalez has brought pride to the Latino community. Victor Cruz appearance in Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th, will insure that continues. ENGAGED! Patriots Wes Welker Is Off the Market

The NFL’s best slot receiver has finally dropped a ball (pun intended) and asked for Anna Burns hand in marriage. Welker who’s been getting the milk for free for the past two years, stepped his game up. According to the Boston Herald, Welker asked the former Miss Hooter International to commit to being a “football wife” and she said yes.

Anna, a former Miss Hooters International 2005, had asked for a Cartier love bracelet for Christmas. Apparently Tom Brady’s go-to guy came up with an even better play, ponying up a big fat diamond. Details are sketchy, but we can tell you the couple has recently moved from Boston down to the burbs by Foxboro, where they will settle down.

…Although the couple is pretty low-key, they have been spotted at the Miss Hooters International pageant down in Florida and at the local Whole Foods buying ingredients for eggplant parm. Read More…
