Mini camps, video game and the Wild Wild West

Written by PigskinLovingLady on May 29, 2007 at 11:03 am

Now that the draft is finished and most of the “notable” free agents have been signed, its time for mini camp. In past years, I found it odd that “starters” would attend rookie camps, and mini camps before the mandatory camps begins in July. With the NFL title being up for grabs, you have more than the normal players participating early.
I find it quite exciting myself…fight for what you want men. Preparation is key. Cohesiveness and brotherhood should be brimming come the final pre-season game. If you ask me, I’d give you guys 2 games and then get the season started. Football is too physical and the threat of injury is too great. Which leads me to my next subject….the cover of the 2007 Madden video game. You had a great season last year Vince Young. Believe the curse! I really, really hope you make it through the season injury free.

    From First to Last……huh?
The Oakland Raiders are reaching their capacity in the wide receivers position. After signing JaMarcus Russell, they are trying to to prevent any reason why they just can’t “win baby”. They’ve recently acquired college stand-out Mike Williams from Detroit for a 4th round pick and Travis Taylor a savvy veteran that should be a reliable 3rd down threat. Mike….give Coach Kiffin a reason to keep you on the field every down. You’re going back to Cali, I expect to see some one handed, jugglers hauled in for TDs! The offense will be on point with the addition of Domonic Rhodes (RB) from the Colts and with Warren Sapp, sweating off 50 lbs, the defense should be inspired.

LT, LT, LT…such a lasting impression you’ve given to us. You lost, you were upset and it showed and now its time for you to come back and hold no mercy. Not that you did last year, but….its the Super Bowl or bust and something tells me that the Patroits who sent you home last year have the same plans, sshh, you ain’t heard that from me….umm but back to the Chargers. Norv Turner has been given another opportunity to show he has enough balls to be a head coach. Boy, I hope for the fans of San Diego you do. You can’t question his offensive skills, but can he motivate, become personable and stringent enough to get the job done? Only time will tell. P.S. Shawn Merrimen…you don’t need an edge…but you will want kids.

Denver, welp you all got your wish. Jake the Snake will no longer QB for you all. Jay Cutler the team is all yours. You showed promise, but now you have an entire 16 games to go. Your offensive line is good and the running game is secure. I’m looking forward to seeing what you’re working with. My prayers are with the Broncos. The lost of Darrent Williams will either inspire or hinder…I’m praying for the former.

Kansas City, you’re last but not the least. I don’t know what to expect from this team. It’s expected that you all should do well, but who knows? That’s kind of typical from a Herm Edwards coached team. (side note: As a Jets fan, I’m still a little bitter) I don’t think Larry Johnson is either happy or appreciated, so let’s see how he does this season. Another QB drama line. Keep Trent or Trade Trent… neither he nor Daman Huard deserves to look over their shoulder after a bad play. I was watching the NFL Network this weekend and they showed how the Cowboys almost lost a championship season due to Coach Landry switching QBs like window wipers. The defensive line needs to step up too. No need in scoring all those points if the other team can match em.

    Who went where…

Written by PigskinLovingLady on May 22, 2007 at 9:19 am

Draft day was pretty exciting for everybody except Brady Quinn. How uncomfortable was it to sit there and supposedly be a top 5 pick and finally go at 22 spot! I will add that his going to Cleveland is huge. He’ll work with Coach Romeo (I like his first name) who knows the system that Coach Charlie ran over at Notre Dame. I do predict that Brady will get a go at starting QB before the season is over. Too many lost games will have the fans calling for a change in 2 positions – QB and Coach. *grgrgrgrgrgrgr* Hey that’s the best I can do as a lady!

Here are the picks from the 2007 draft..additional commentary following.

    # Sel# Team Player
1 1 Oakland – JaMarcus Russell (QB) – no surprise here
2 2 Detroit – Calvin Johnson (WR) – this shouldn’t have been a surprise, but it was. Another WR. Folks say he was the best in the draft…no pressure “CJ”…your initials alone says you got this is the bag!
3 3 Cleveland – Joe Thomas (OT) – folks thought Brady was going here, but the Browns got their man down at 22.
4 4 Tampa Bay – Gaines Adams (DE) – much needed. Despite having too much talent, the defense is getting old. Way to address the need of the team and possibly your job coach.
5 5 Arizona – Levi Brown (OT) – I hope this guy understands how vital he is. EJ needs to rack up some yards and Matt Leinart needs protection ASAP. These fans need more than a nice stadium, they needs some “W’s”
6 6 Washington – LaRon Landry (FS) – Shawn Springs best get healthy and stay that way!
7 7 Minnesota – Adrian Peterson (RB) – Nice fit. A good division for him.
8 8 Atlanta (from Houston) – Jamaal Anderson – Well the first Jamal Anderson that played with them did very well. Maybe this is the 2nd coming.
9 9 Miami – Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) – aging offense..good pick. Let’s just hope they have a qualified QB throwing to him.
10 10 Houston (from Atlanta) – Amobi Okoye (DT) – Patrick Kerney is gone…
11 11 San Francisco – Patrick Willis (ILB)
    12 12 Buffalo – Marshawn Lynch (RB)
13 13 St. Louis – Adam Carriker (DE)
14 14 New York Jets from Carolina – Darrelle Revis (CB)
    15 15 Pittsburgh – Lawrence Timmons (OLB)
16 16 Green Bay – Justin Harrell (DT)
17 17 Denver from Jacksonville – Jarvis Moss (DE)
    18 18 Cincinnati – Leon Hall (CB)
    19 19 Tennessee – Michael Griffin (FS)
    20 20 N.Y. Giants – Aaron Ross (CB)
21 21 Jacksonville from Denver – Reggie Nelson (FS)
22 22 Cleveland from Dallas – Brady Quinn (QB) – now they don’t have to pay him Top 5 $$
23 23 Kansas City – Dwayne Bowe (WR)
24 24 New England (from Seattle) – Brandon Meriweather (FS)
25 25 Carolina from N.Y. Jets – Jon Beason (OLB)
26 26 Dallas from Philadelphia – Anthony Spencer (DE)
27 27 New Orleans – Rober Maechem (WR) – Joe Horn is in ATL now.
28 28 San Fransisco from New England – Joe Staley (OT)
    29 29 Baltimore – Ben Grubbs (G)
30 30 San Diego – Craig Davis (WR)
    31 31 Chicago – Greg Olsen (TE)
    32 32 Indianapolis – Anthony Gonzalez (WR)
