After 15 seasons in the NFL, Brown hung up his cleats. Having played his entire career with the same team, the New England Patriots, Brown was the quintessential team player. When the secondary was riddled with injuries, Brown stepped in and played defensive back.
He hasn’t played a down this season, but he has the team record for most career receptions.
With team owner Robert Kraft and coach Bill Belichick looking on, Brown said that when he watches football on television, he sometimes thinks he can still play. “It’s been a part of my life since I was in second grade, 30 years,” he said. “You can’t outrun Father Time.”

With his wife and two sons sitting in the front row, Brown fought back tears.
“It’s just kind of hard to let it go,” he said. “I can’t keep up anymore the way I used to.”

Matthew Tryson Bryant, the 3-month-old son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant, died Wednesday.
“We had a terrible tragedy this morning,” coach Jon Gruden said after practice.
“We lost a key member of our family. Matt Bryant and Melissa lost their youngest son. I don’t have a lot of details but … it’s hard. Our prayers go out to the Bryants.”
“Obviously the details will come later but it’s just a horrible tragedy and I can’t explain it. Again, I just ask the fans and the people that know Matt to keep him in their prayers. It will be hard for him to overcome this but we’ve got to do the best we can right now.”
Bryant is in his seventh season in the NFL, his fourth season with Tampa Bay.
“The entire Buccaneer family is deeply saddened by this tragedy,” general manager Bruce Allen said in a team statement.
“The Bryants have been an inspiration to our entire community through their commitment to their family and their exhaustive efforts working with children and those in need in the Bay area. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and Melissa during this difficult time.”
Matthew was the youngest of the Bryant family’s two sons.
Bryant, 33, kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime against Chicago last Sunday.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Bryant family this morning. Losing a child is a very painful experience.

The contents of a storage unit belonging to Michael Vick, which included baby items, were sold after the imprisoned Falcons quarterback failed to pay his bill, according to a Virginia television station.
WTKR Channel 3 reported Tuesday that employees at the Iron Bound Mini Storage in Williamsburg informed Edward Howard that he had bid on a unit rented to Vick.
Inside boxes, Howard found pictures of Vick and his son. He also found a football signed by Vick to the child. Howard told the station that other boxes were packed with baby clothes, baby furniture and other items that he believes are memories of Vick’s first-born boy.
Vick has three children, a son and two younger daughters.
Howard said he hopes to meet Vick when he gets out of prison, where he is serving a 23-month prison term on federal charges related to dog fighting.
“I’d say ‘Hey man here’s your football back that you signed for your boy.’ Seeing that it was their first boy you know that’s probably got a lot of sentimental value to it I’m sure,” Howard told the station.
A storage facility employee told the station that the unit was rented by a Michael Vick and that it was put on auction because the bill hadn’t been paid in the very long time.
