Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year by the AP. I can’t argue with this pick. Nobody thought Ryan would win 11 games this year, let alone have the Falcons going to the playoffs.
The quarterback from Boston College, selected third overall in April’s draft, was a landslide winner in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. Ryan became the third quarterback in five years to win the award; before that, no QB ever took the honor.
He joins Ben Roethlisberger (2004) and Vince Young (2006) as top rookie quarterbacks.
I know he’s somewhere singing to all the Michael Vick fans, “HI HATERS”! *and that includes me*

Earlier this year I was a guest blogger on Black Sports Online and I detailed my unhappiness with the NFL’s Pro Bowl. I won’t go into all the details, but I thought the Pro Bowl was lame. The first problem was that it was in Hawaii and the players voted in didn’t show up half the time. For more of my gripes, click the link. But that’s neither here nor there, because in 201o the Pro Bowl comes state-side!
According to an official of the NFL who want to remain anonymous, the Pro Bowl is slated to precede the Super Bowl on January 31st, in Miami, FL!! Yeaaaahhh!!!!
It’s not a new notion to have the game moved up to take place between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. The NFL has discussed it multiple times in recent years, and commissioner Roger Goodell told the AP last month that having the game precede the Super Bowl would avoid a “somewhat anticlimactic” ending to the season.
The Pro Bowl has been held in Honolulu since 1980, and it’s probable that the game will return to Hawaii after 2010, although not on the permanent basis as has been the case over the last three decades.
For those concerned with the players going to the Super Bowl the league’s plan is for players those squads not to take part in the Pro Bowl. Isn’t this exciting!!!

After yesterday’s games a few head coaches knew their time had come to past. I’m sure Romeo and Rod had their desks cleaned out before kick off. If you don’t win, you get the boot; by circumstance, its nickname is “Not For Long.”
The Browns had high expectations after a 10-6 season in 2007 that resulted in lucrative contract extensions for Romeo Crennel. Crennel got a two-year extension through 2011 but after a disappointing season, he can take that $9-10 million remaining on his contract and kick rocks. The Browns have already began talking with Bill Cowher as his replacement. He’ll take the job.
UPDATE: According to ESPN Bill Cowher is not interested in the job. I hadn’t even thought about the division rivalry they have with Pittsburgh. *shrugs*

The Lions are the first NFL franchise to ever go 0-16. Did you think
Rod Marinelli would remain the head coach? He has gone 10-38 in three seasons. I just wonder who in the hell wants this job?!?!?

Much to my surprise,
Eric Mangini is out as the NY Jets head coach. Was it due to the Jets missing the playoffs. How about him and Brett Favre not getting along? He did beat the New England Patriots but I guess even that wasn’t enough. It’s all good, I don’t suspect he’ll be unemployed for long. But can you hear Bill Belichick laughing?
It’s only Monday which leds me to ask, “who’s next”?

Week 17 is a stressful time for NFL players. Every game is dependent on another, and no outcome is definite until the end of the day, when all games have been played. But isn’t this why they play the game?
I’m averaging .500 with my picks but nevertheless, when I start something I finish, regardless of the outcome.
With that my picks are based on who needs the win more:
