My how times flies when you’re having fun!! It’s hard to remember what happen last month but when I think about the past decade in regards to football, the New England Patriots immediately come to mind. Between 2001 and 2005, the Patriots became the second team in NFL history (after the Dallas Cowboys) to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX), and the eighth to win consecutive Super Bowls.
The Patriots, however, were defeated by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. Under quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have also compiled the longest regular season and playoff winning streak in NFL history, an 21-game streak in 2003-2004.
Even if you despise the Patriots you have to respect their accomplishments because even when they didn’t win, they were still favorites.
The most memorable football moment of 2009 for me is QB Steve McNair’s death. I still remember where I was upon receiving the news. I was setting up for my family’s reunion and a friend sent me a BBM. Time stood still. After hearing how he died, I was angry and to some degree, I’m still upset. It wasn’t suppose to happen like that?!!
It’s week 17 of the 09 season and some great games have been played, records have been broken and the playoffs are on the horizon, and I still think about Steve “Air” McNair every Sunday.
Please share with me your best or worst memory of 2009.

David Pear has a message for you. ”Don’t let your kids play football,” he says. “Never.”

It is an odd thing, hearing these sort of words from a man like David Louis Pear, University of Washington standout, Pro Bowl defensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Super Bowl champion with the Oakland Raiders. His five-year NFL career was one thousands of high school and college athletes would envy — charging out of a darkened stadium tunnel, 70,000 fans screaming for you, loving you, praising you, idolizing you.
“You wanna know the truth?” says Pear. The question lingers — the 56-year-old ex-athlete preparing to unload one more skull-splitting hit.
“I wish I never played football. I wish that more than anything. Every single day, I want to take back those years of my life …”
Pear is sitting at his home in Seattle. His neck hurts. His hips hurt. His knees hurt. His feet hurt. When he wakes up in the morning, pain shoots through his body. When he goes to sleep at night, pain shoots through his body. What does Pear do to stay active?
“My life is simple,” he says. “It’s hard to get out of bed, but eventually I do. I try and do a little walking on the treadmill. I take naps. I go to physical therapy once per week. I read my Bible.”
He is, in basic terms, a train wreck — a football-inflicted train wreck. Pear walks with a cane and, often, simply doesn’t walk at all. He suffers from vertigo and memory loss. Over the past 18 years, he has undergone eight surgeries, beginning with a Posterior Cervical Laminectomy on his neck in 1981, and including disc removal and rod fusion in his back (1987), arthroplasty in his left hip (2008) and, earlier this year, four screws removed from his lower back. Though he chalks up his physical ailments to snap after snap of punishment, he pinpoints the biggest problems back to 1979 and ’80, his final two NFL seasons. While playing for Oakland, Pear suffered a herniated disc in his neck that never improved. Despite the unbearable agony, he says the Raiders urged him to keep playing. Read More…

I know, I know…just keep reading. CNBC Sports Business Reporter, Darren Rovell writes about a new company called, “Off the Market.” Off The Market is the brainchild of some of the wives and significant others of NFL players. The idea is to help strengthen the relationships between pro athletes and their significant others.

Fred and Tia Robbins
“We want to help athletes sustain a positive and sexy relationship with their mates,”
said Tia Robbins, wife of New York Giants defensive tackle Fred Robbins. Robbins will be hosting Off the Market’s first event this Monday in New York City, along with Jerika Johnstone, wife of former NFL player Lance Johnstone and Jasmine Silva, girlfriend of St. Louis Rams safety James Butler.
The party is an exclusive, invite-only event that caters to the high-end athlete clientele the company seeks to draw in. The party is free-of-charge, but the company will make money by signing sponsors that will have access to the power players at the parties and through the Web site’s e-commerce page.
Gift bags to Monday’s event, for example, will have a product from Tenga, which makes adult toys for men.
“It’s a perfect partnership,” Robbins said. “Our men can use this product on the road and that will help them stay straight at home.”
Other sponsors of Monday’s event include Judith Ripka jewelry, Vita Coco drink, the W Hotel in Hoboken, Modern Luxury Ventures (concierge company) and Coastal Advisors, an insurance company that writes policies for athletes.

The 2009 regular season is coming to an end and Week 16 painted a clearer picture of the playoffs, for most, but definitely not all.
If you bad, show ‘em you bad…
And the San Diego Chargers are doing just that. Phillip Rivers hasn’t lost a game in December and the Tennessee Titans weren’t up for the challenge to change that stat. I picked the Chargers to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl and I got the feeling I’m dead on.
The Dallas Cowboys have knocked the proverbial monkey of their back and caged his tail! They won two games in December, convincingly. The Redskins were shut out, at home, during a prime time game; good! You don’t disrespect your head coach by interviewing for his job while he’s still there. To quote Ms. Celie, “until you do right by me, everything you touch will crumble.” That’s how I feel about Mr. Synder’s reign over the franchise.
I don’t care about the 4th and 1 call that went awry, or the talk about Randy Moss quitting on certain plays, the New England Patriots are in the playoffs and there’s nothing we can do about it. The Jacksonville Jaguars got a taste of disrespect and deservingly so. You can’t choose which games to show up too.
The Cincinnati Bengals are still playing with heavy hearts and a banged up defense. They won the AFC North division title, but the win over the Chiefs by just 7, was too close for comfort, especially heading into the playoffs.
The Philadelphia Eagles welcomed ex-teammate Brian Dawkins back to Lincoln Field and sent him and the Broncos home with a ‘l.” Philadelphia is looking stronger with each game, exactly what a team needs to face San Diego in the Super Bowl.
Why am I uber excited about the Green Bay Packers trouncing of the Seattle Seahawks. I detest the NFC West; they bore me to no end. But…the Packers are in with the win and I hope they face the Vikings. Talk about revenge being sweet!!
The Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers kept their respective teams in the hunt for a wild card spot by beating Miami and Baltimore. But will it be enough? Read More…
