I know, I know…just keep reading. CNBC Sports Business Reporter, Darren Rovell writes about a new company called, “Off the Market.” Off The Market is the brainchild of some of the wives and significant others of NFL players. The idea is to help strengthen the relationships between pro athletes and their significant others.
“We want to help athletes sustain a positive and sexy relationship with their mates,”
said Tia Robbins, wife of New York Giants defensive tackle Fred Robbins. Robbins will be hosting Off the Market’s first event this Monday in New York City, along with Jerika Johnstone, wife of former NFL player Lance Johnstone and Jasmine Silva, girlfriend of St. Louis Rams safety James Butler.
The party is an exclusive, invite-only event that caters to the high-end athlete clientele the company seeks to draw in. The party is free-of-charge, but the company will make money by signing sponsors that will have access to the power players at the parties and through the Web site’s e-commerce page.
Gift bags to Monday’s event, for example, will have a product from Tenga, which makes adult toys for men.
“It’s a perfect partnership,” Robbins said. “Our men can use this product on the road and that will help them stay straight at home.”
Other sponsors of Monday’s event include Judith Ripka jewelry, Vita Coco drink, the W Hotel in Hoboken, Modern Luxury Ventures (concierge company) and Coastal Advisors, an insurance company that writes policies for athletes.
Robbins says she hopes to spice up the sponsorship deals.
“We’d like to offer a private lesson for strip pole dancing one day or even offer to have a strip pole built in a home,” Robbins said.
While the idea for the company was thought of before Tiger Woods made headlines, Robbins thinks that what happened could be a wakeup call for athletes and their wives.
“My husband told me that since he had that ring on his finger, women have been flocking to him more,” Robbins said. “We have to be open with each other and we think we can help with these unique relationships.”

This is a very good idea. But I have to Pessimistic Patty, I doubt if it will help many of these guys. Some guys live for moments that they get, playing in the NFL. Don’t give up, though, ladies. It deserves a shot

Here’s anutha quote…
P*ssy is like the ’72 Dolphins…it’s undefeated.”-12kyle
As long as there is air and opportunity between a man and a woman…ANYTHING can and WILL happen.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a billion dollar Tiger or a 5 cent mutt.

bwaahhaaahhaa @12Kyle that’s hilarious.
I think what’s worse than the guys is the women who KNOWINGLY mess with a dude who is married/engaged/whatever. It gives good women a bad name and also gives ALL the power to the man. I’m a strong, independent woman, I will NEVER do that to another woman…never.
Why give away our power?

I think it was actually only women that may have expected the McNair incident to inspire a change beyond “maybe dont stay the night.” This idea just kinda sounds like prep for a “Real Housewives of…” type thing to me.

Priceless (no pun intended)

If Fred worked at the GM plant and didn’t play football, would he REALLY have a woman that looks like her???

What happened to integrity…does it mean anything anymore?
Let’s not let these guys off of the hook with the typical, “a man will be a man…” or “anything can or will happen.” God gave each of us self-control. If only we would use it from time to time.

@Candace – We’re not letting them off the hook, just stating the obvious when its comes to some, not all, NFL players. For the men that are faithful kudos, I applaud them.

@12kyle – Good point about money covering up some things. I immediately thought about Michael Jordan and Lil Wayne. Both were considerably unattractive when they came on the scene. But with each successful year, their appearance improved.

@and1grad – Considering she’s looking for sponsors, a reality show of some sort is very possible.

I’m sorry but this is not going to change anything. If a person wants to cheat, he is going to cheat. If a person wants to be faithful, he will be faithful. Period.

Heeey there’s nothing wrong with working at GM! It’s honest work. And yes he would have a woman that looks like her–a beautiful sista for a beautiful brotha! Good topic!
